Castle Hot Springs, in Arizona’s Hieroglyphic Mountains near Morristown, grew from geothermal pools and a simple boarding house into a major health resort completed in 1896. Development had been delayed by the Apache Wars, but the property gained prominence after Frank Murphy acquired the springs and adjoining land, and it became a noted desert retreat in the early 20th century. Theodore Roosevelt stayed there in 1911, and prominent guests visited in the 1920s. During World War II, the United States military used it as a rehabilitation center for wounded veterans, including John F. Kennedy. Damaged by fire in 1976, it was restored after 2014 and reopened in 2019.
