Tuolumne Peak is a fractured granite mountain with twin summits near the geographic center of Yosemite National Park in the Tuolumne Meadows area. A granite ridgeline extends about 2.5 miles northeast from Mount Hoffmann to the peak. It is climbed less often than Mount Hoffmann because the approach is more difficult, though it is used for rock climbing. The mountain also preserves evidence of Yosemite’s glacial past: during the Wisconsin Glacial Stage, ice from the Tenaya Glacier overtopped the connecting ridge and isolated both summits. Tuolumne Peak stands in an alpine climate zone shaped by Pacific storms rising over the Sierra Nevada.
