Fort Worth Zoo in Fort Worth, Texas, has grown from a tiny 1909 collection into a nationally recognized zoological park housing about 7,000 native and exotic animals. Long supported by a local zoological society and managed since 1991 by the Fort Worth Zoological Association, it expanded with major exhibits such as World of Primates, Texas Wild!, the Australian Outback, and newer African and Asian predator habitats. Its history includes notable landmarks like Monkey Island and the original Herpetarium, later replaced by the Museum of Living Art. Beyond exhibition, the zoo plays a significant conservation role, supporting species recovery in Texas and in more than 30 countries.
