From 1861 to 1865, Floyd County honored its fallen Confederate soldiers with a tribute to the county’s dead in the Army of the Confederacy, including Company A, 24th Virginia Infantry; Company B, 42d Virginia Infantry; Companies A, B, D, H, and I of the 54th Virginia Infantry; Company G, 21st Virginia Cavalry; Companies H and I, 4th Virginia Reserves; and more than 80 men in Pelman’s Battery, Stuarts Horse Artillery, as well as many Floyd men in other commands.
