The Horton Adams and Lily Ann Hatch Eldredge House is a grand one-and-one-half story Victorian home built by Horton Adams Eldredge in 1894. It was originally a one-story house with a hipped roof, but early in its history the upper story was enlarged with gabled ends and dormer windows, and a projected bay with a bay window was added to the south facade. The home features five fireplaces, transom windows, and a solid walnut staircase. A two-story brick carriage house at the rear was constructed several years after the home was completed; it originally featured an ornate cupola and for a time served as the area creamery. For over one hundred years, area residents have enjoyed the ice-cold, crystal clear water flowing from two artesian wells on the property. Horton was the youngest of five children born on August 22, 1872, to Horace and Hannah Eldredge. He was a founding director of Farmers State Bank and a successful rancher. Horace married Lilly Ann Hatch on October 6, 1892, and together they raised six children. Between 1918 and 1926, Horton conveyed title of the property to his children and his brother Clarence.
