Elite Hall, designed by architect K.C. Schaub and constructed in 1917, became Hyrum's primary center for dancing and social events after the 1889 Opera Hall was destroyed by fire in 1914. Financed by the Hyrum Amusement Company, it drew dancers from across Cache County and northern Utah because it had the only spring-loaded dance floor in northern Utah, whose springs gave extra bounce to the hundreds who crowded the floor. It is also one of only a couple of known remaining dance halls in the state with such a floor. Although commercial buildings of its time typically had little ornamentation, this large structure features modest Prairie School-style detailing, including a large frieze with bracket-like ornamentation around the top of the building and long vertical inset panels on the primary facade that add a sense of height. Its imposing presence on Main Street, Prairie School-style detailing, and historical integrity have made it one of the town's most prominent buildings.
