Hyrum State Park in Hyrum, Utah, is a compact recreation area centered on Hyrum Reservoir in the state’s northeast at about 4,700 feet elevation. Covering 265 acres around a 450-acre reservoir, it supports boating, fishing, swimming, camping, hiking, picnicking, and waterskiing. The reservoir was created by a dam completed in April 1935 by the United States Bureau of Reclamation, following earlier local irrigation work that included a nine-mile canal from the Little Bear River to Hyrum. Named for Hyrum Smith, brother of Joseph Smith, the park reflects the valley’s history of agriculture and water management while serving as a regional outdoor destination.
