Platted in 1846 by John Hastings, the town was named Clarksburg, reportedly after George Rogers Clark, and its post office was called Clark’s Prairie from 1858 to 1881. In 1881, both names were changed to Odon, and Odon was incorporated in 1885. By tradition, the name Odon was coined by combining the names of two prominent citizens.
