Bayou Sorrel Indian Mound
History
Bayou Sorrel Indian Mound is one of the most prominent mounds in the Atchafalaya Heritage Area. Archaeological investigation in 1913 by Clarence Moore included artifacts from the Tchefuncte, Marksville, Baytown, Coles Creek, or Plaquemine Period. After the Flood of 1927, people of the Basin began using the mound for burials.
