Gasconade Formation
Nature
The Gasconade Formation is a geologic formation in the Ozarks of Missouri that preserves fossils from the Ordovician Period. Part of the region’s deep geological record, it is especially noted for fossil remains of monoplacophorans, including Kirengella expansus and Titanoplina meramecensis. Its significance lies in the evidence it preserves of ancient life in Missouri’s distant past.
