Mount Wister is an eleven thousand four hundred ninety-five-foot peak in the Teton Range of northwestern Wyoming, within Grand Teton National Park. Rising west of Taggart Lake and south of Avalanche Canyon, it is part of the steep granite summits that shape the central Tetons. The mountain was named for Owen Wister, an early visitor to the region and a noted author. Its documented climbing history begins with Phil Smith's first ascent in nineteen twenty-eight. Mount Wister remains one of the named peaks that help form the park's dramatic skyline and reflect its mountaineering heritage.
