Buck Mountain is a 11,943-foot summit in Wyoming’s Teton Range, within Grand Teton National Park and just southeast of the Grand Teton. The highest peak south of Garnet Canyon, it is a prominent feature of the central range skyline seen from Jackson Hole. Its summit looks north to the Cathedral Group, while its slopes connect visually with Alaska Basin on the west and Timberline Lake on the east. Buck Mountain also holds an early place in Teton mountaineering history: on August 21, 1898, T.M. Bannon and George Buck made the first documented ascent by climbers of European descent, only ten days after the first climb of the Grand Teton.
