In Duncan, British Columbia, this forestry museum preserves the history of the province’s logging industry across a 100-acre site that blends indoor exhibits, outdoor machinery, and a working narrow-gauge railway. Founded by G.E. “Gerry” Wellburn, it opened in 1965 as the Cowichan Valley Forest Museum and later was also known as the BC Forest Museum. Its grounds include operating steam and diesel railway equipment, logging trucks, a recreated logging camp, a ranger’s station, and a fire lookout tower. A major draw is the heritage railway, featuring historic locomotives and passing structures and landscapes tied to both forest industry and surrounding wetlands.
