Mount Prevost, known in Halkomelem as Swuq'us, is a prominent Vancouver Island mountain northwest of Duncan, recognized for twin rock bluffs and broad views over the Gulf Islands and Cowichan Valley. It holds deep importance in Cowichan tradition as a refuge in the First Nation creation story, where a lone man survived a great flood there before meeting two women who had endured on high ground near Sooke; together they became the ancestors of the Cowichan people. Its English name honors Captain James Charles Prevost of the Royal Navy. Since 1946, its forest has been part of a municipal forest and the mountain has served year-round recreation.
