Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge is a protected area on the Maine coast, centered in and around Steuben, and one of five refuges within the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge. It combines mainland habitat with numerous offshore islands, creating a broad mix of shoreline and island environments. The refuge spans 6,367 acres, including four mainland divisions—Petit Manan Point, Gouldsboro Bay, Sawyer’s Marsh, and Corea Heath—and 41 coastal islands. Together with Cross Island, Franklin Island, Seal Island, and Pond Island, it forms part of a larger conservation network whose importance rests on protecting both mainland and offshore landscapes along the Maine coast.
