Narraguagus Light stands on Pond Island at the mouth of Narraguagus Bay in Downeast Maine, where it guided vessels through deep water dotted with islands and rock ledges and served the port of Milbridge, once a major deep-water shipbuilding center on the Narraguagus River. Established in 1853 during the early years of the United States Lighthouse Board, the station retains its original circular brick tower and later keeper’s house of 1875. It remained active until 1934, passing through a succession of keepers from Joseph Brown to Charles E. Tracy. The light station was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
