Nash Island Light stands on Nash Island at the entrance to Pleasant Bay in Maine, where it served local navigation from its first establishment in 1838. The present lighthouse was built in 1874, continuing the island’s role as a small but important offshore guide for mariners. The light remained in operation until 1982, when a buoy took its place. An especially unusual feature of the station was its one-room schoolhouse, noted by the U.S. Coast Guard, a rare detail for such a small island site.
