Will Rogers Airport was dedicated July 14th, 1931, by Will Rogers, Wiley Post, and Harold Gatty following the famous Around the World flight. It was under the supervision and maintenance of the United States Department of Commerce and was on the Amarillo-Saint Louis airways. The Oklahoma Military Academy on the hill to the southwest operated its Flight and Ground School of Aviation here.
