On March 12, 1818, General Andrew Jackson, with a command of nine hundred Georgia Militia and friendly Creek Indians, occupied the Indian village of Herodtown at this site during his march from Fort Early, Georgia, to Saint Marks, Florida, in the war with the hostile Indians of Georgia.
