Morphy Lake State Park is a small mountain park in northern New Mexico, about 7 miles southwest of Mora in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Covering 30 acres, with a 15-acre lake, it is among the state’s smaller parks, yet it is valued for quiet outdoor recreation. The lake supports fishing, camping, and picnicking, and is stocked with trout and kokanee salmon. Boats are allowed, but gas-powered motors are prohibited, helping preserve a calm setting. At about 8,000 feet in elevation, the park has cold winters that can freeze the lake for ice fishing. Limited facilities and no running water require visitors to bring their own supplies.
