A blockhouse was built here in 1789 by Gen. Charles Scott to protect settlers against Indians who had massacred and driven off earlier families. Scott came from Va. in 1785. He served in the French and Indian Wars, organized the first company south of the James River in the Revolution, fought Indians in the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794, and was Governor of Kentucky from 1808 to 1812.
