Turner Mountain Ski Resort is an alpine ski area in northwestern Montana, about 22 miles north of Libby above the Kootenai Valley, and is known for fall-line powder skiing. It emerged from Libby’s local skiing culture: skiers organized the Kootenai Ski Club in the late 1930s, later the Libby Ski Club, and began developing Turner Mountain in the 1950s. The ski area opened on New Year’s weekend in 1961, with a summit T-bar added the next summer. That lift served the mountain for four decades before a double chairlift replaced it in 2001. The resort remains volunteer-run, and a new lodge was completed in 2006.
