Black Mountain, a large hill in Presque Isle County in northeastern Michigan about 10 miles north of Onaway, was shaped along with its surrounding range by glacial movement during the last major ice age. Its landscape of steep to moderate grades, deep valleys, ridges, and nearby Woodland Lake made it a notable natural feature, now included in the state-owned Black Mountain Forest Recreation Area. Used year-round, its trail network supports dirt biking, mountain biking, and winter snowmobiling. After erosion affected parts of the mountain following deforestation and nearby development increased from the 1990s onward, landowners donated the property to Michigan, where it is now protected as public land.
