Old Military Road crossed here on the route from Ft. Gibson, established in 1824, to Ft. Leavenworth. During the Civil War, two Cabin Creek battles were fought at the old ford 5 miles away. S.W. Ketchum is 1.5 miles east, and the first store, in 1860, and a stage stand were at Old Sulphur Springs campground nearby.
