Lyman Run State Park in Potter County centers on the forty-five-acre Lyman Run Lake within northern hardwood forest and takes its name from the creek, which in turn honors Major Isaac Lyman, an American Revolutionary War veteran and early settler regarded as the county’s founder. Lyman built his home nearby in 1809 and established the county’s first road, sawmill, and gristmill. The area later became part of the late nineteenth-century lumber boom, with land acquired by Frank and Charles Goodyear for timber and railroad operations. In the twentieth century, the site hosted a Civilian Conservation Corps camp, then a German prisoner-of-war camp, before park construction began in 1951.
