Near Galeton in Potter County, the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum explores the history and technology of the lumber industry that fueled Pennsylvania’s economic growth while causing major ecological harm. Through a visitor center, replica buildings, and collections of machinery such as logging locomotives and sawmill equipment, it presents both industrial operations and daily life in lumber camps during the late 1800s. Developed with intermittent state assistance beginning in the late 1960s, it is part of the Pennsylvania Lumber Heritage Region. The site also preserves forester Bob Webber’s cabin, connecting lumbering history to later forest stewardship, trails, and public recreation.
