The first inter-collegiate baseball game in America was played on this site between Williams and Amherst Colleges under the sponsorship of the Pittsfield Baseball Club. The three and one half hour contest was won by Amherst, 73 to 32. The game was re-enacted during the Bicentennial celebration in 1976 at Wahconah Park.
