The sons of Ilion gave their service to their country in the Great World War, and in the hour of need they made the supreme gift of themselves, going to meet toil, privation, suffering, and death with steady courage. Those who fell and those who returned gave this and future generations of Ilion youth the example of noble achievement and willing sacrifice. The residents of the village, through its Board of Light Commissioners, dedicated Memorial Park to their memory on the thirtieth day of May in the year of our Lord Nineteen hundred and twenty six.
