The Clarence and Effie Eldredge House is a grand two-story Victorian Eclectic-style home built in 1904 by Clarence and Effie Peck Eldredge. Its exterior is hard-fired red brick with rough-brick accents, and its gables, eaves, and porch are trimmed with ornamental motifs. The interior has changed very little and still retains decorative molding, pocket doors, lincrusta wall coverings, leaded-beveled glass windows, and three original fireplaces, while the front interior hall features an elaborate staircase. A carriage house west of the home was built later with arches and decorative brick details; inside were horse stalls, carriage storage space, and a stairway to a hay loft. In February 1993, the carriage house roof caved in under a heavy snowfall, destroying much of the upper level, but the loft has since been reconstructed and is fully usable. Flowing wells still provide cool, crystal-clear water to the residents. Clarence Eldredge, born in 1868 to Horace and Hannah Eldredge, established a large cattle ranch in Gentile Valley, Idaho, as a young man, met Effie Mabel Peck there, and married her. They had six children, all raised in this home, and Clarence was a founding director of the Bountiful State Bank.
