Grand Canyon Lodge was the North Rim’s historic hotel complex at Bright Angel Point, developed by the Utah Parks Company in 1927 and 1928 as a lodge-and-cabin resort in a dramatic canyon-edge setting. Designed by Gilbert Stanley Underwood with native Kaibab Limestone and timber, it blended rustic architecture with the surrounding landscape. After fire destroyed most of the main lodge in 1932, a simplified, sturdier version opened in 1937 using much of the original stonework. The complex remained unusual for preserving both modest and deluxe guest cabins, and it gained national recognition for being the last complete lodge-and-cabin complex of its kind before the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire caused devastating losses.
