Built in November 1881, the Village of Iroquois calaboose was established when a second saloon was coming to Bunkum and town leaders decided a cooler was needed for wicked people who came from other places to disturb the peace. The following month, it was said that nobody had tried the calaboose yet and that it seemed a very unnecessary arrangement unless it was used for an ornament. In 1993, the jail was moved from Lincoln Street to Dunning Park by Butch Garrets and Company of Buckley, Illinois.
