The Farmington Canal ran from New Haven to Northampton, Massachusetts, a total distance of 88 miles. Here, its remnants can be seen as it crosses over Floydville Road, proceeds over Salmon Brook by an aqueduct, and continues toward Northampton. More remnants of the canal lie across the bridge and up the hill to the left near Lake Basile.
