Ashtabula County features a wide range of museums, historical sites, and notable historic places connected to railroads, maritime history, agriculture, Finnish-American heritage, covered bridges, local architecture, and antislavery and Civil War history. Among them are the AC&J Railroad scenic line on the former New York Central High Grade route between Ashtabula and Pittsburgh by way of Youngstown; the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club's agriculture and railroad museums, freight depot, 1930's gas station, country store, and engine buildings; the Ashtabula Lighthouse restoration and tours; the Ashtabula Maritime and Surface Transportation Museum in the former light keeper's house; the Blakeslee Log Cabin, built in 1810 in Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut, and now being restored; the Conneaut Area Historical Museum in a former New York Central freight depot built in 1873; and the Conneaut Railroad Museum in a New York Central passenger building built in 1902. Other sites preserve Finnish heritage, the law office of antislavery leader Joshua Reed Giddings, the Hubbard House and Underground Railroad Museum, the former Trinity Episcopal Church in Jefferson, the Jennie Munger Gregory Memorial Museum, the Olin Covered Bridge Museum, archives devoted to penman Platt R. Spencer, Shandy Hall, the Presidential Museum, and the Victorian Perambulator Museum. The county also includes Ohio Historical Marker subjects, National Historical Places such as the Ashtabula Harbor Lighthouse, Blakeslee Log Cabin, Giddings Law Office, Hubbard House, and numerous bridges, churches, depots, houses, and districts, and it is associated with notable people including Betsy Mix Cowles, Joshua Reed Giddings, Ransom Olds, Platt Rodgers Spencer, Clarence Darrow, and others.
