Cloudripper is a 13,525-foot summit in the Palisades of the John Muir Wilderness in northern California, on Inyo National Forest land west of Big Pine. The highest point in the Inconsolable Range and California’s 58th highest peak, it rises in an alpine climate shaped by Pacific storms forced over the Sierra Nevada. Its runoff flows toward the North Fork of Big Pine Creek and the headwaters of Bishop Creek. Long valued by climbers for routes ranging from Class 1 to Class 3, it was first recorded ascended by Norman Clyde on June 15, 1927, though some accounts give 1926.
