Union County, the fifty-fifth Kentucky county created, was formed entirely out of Henderson County in 1811. It was possibly named for the unanimity of its citizens in favor of dividing the old county. Morganfield became the county seat and was named for Gen. Daniel Morgan, who owned the land. He served as an officer throughout the Revolutionary War, from 1775 at Quebec to 1781 at Cowpens, S.C.
