Split Mountain is a 13,161-foot summit in Wyoming’s Wind River Range, ranking as the state’s 22nd highest peak. In the Bridger Wilderness of Bridger-Teton National Forest, it rises among some of Wyoming’s most rugged alpine terrain, with Mammoth Glacier on its northeast slopes and Baby Glacier descending from a nearby spur. Strong glaciation, steep rock walls, snow, and exposed routes shape the mountain’s character and the surrounding backcountry. The area is known for both striking scenery and significant hazards, including bears, insects, wildfires, difficult snow conditions, sharp nighttime temperature drops, fatal falls, and falling rock.
