Shamrock's tower was erected with a basket pole derrick suspended by cables at each leg and moved from leg to leg to hang each adjoining leg and strut or cross-member. The tower's components, including the balcony, tank, and roof, were hoisted by the derrick using teams of mules. As the legs rose, the basket pole was jumped upward until the last section and then used to erect the equator or balcony course. The tank bottom, or bowl, and the tank shell were assembled on the ground in four bays, one for each leg. After the third bay of the bowl was hoisted and assembled, the derrick was jumped into the bowl so the fourth bay could be assembled. The four bays of the tank shell followed, then the two roof bays, after which the derrick was removed and a saucer was placed over the center hole. The riser, or stand pipe, was assembled in one piece on the ground with its bottom positioned on or near the center foundation pier. Load lines and sway guylines were attached, and the standpipe was raised with a steam threshing machine. The two bottom struts were unpinned and allowed to dangle, then re-pinned as the riser cleared each strut, while the top strut remained pinned until the riser reached that point. Once in place, the standpipe was jacked up, shimmed, and finished with a lead joint.
