The war involved 16,112,566 in the U.S. military, with 291,557 battle deaths, 405,399 total deaths, and 670,846 wounded. Service extended across the European, Pacific, Southeast Pacific, China-Burma-India, Mediterranean-North African, and American theaters, as well as the home front, where the Civil Air Patrol, Civil Defense, American Red Cross, United Services Organization, Blue and Gold Star Families, and the American people also served.
