West Dummerston Covered Bridge in Dummerston, Vermont, carries a road across the West River and is the longest covered bridge located entirely within the state. Built in 1872 by master builder Caleb Lamson, it is the only known surviving example of his work in Windham County. The 280-foot bridge rests on stone abutments and a central stone pier, forming two spans supported by Town lattice trusses. Its vertical board siding, clapboarded ends, metal-covered roof, and diamond-shaped side openings reflect its historic character. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, it remains one of southern Vermont’s notable historic bridges.
