Built in 1909 after the county seat moved from historic Old Mobeetie, the Wheeler County Jail was constructed of concrete and steel. The first sheriff was M. V. Sanders, and the jailer was J. M. Kezee. It was used for 20 years, with only 1 prisoner escaping. It is now used for a library, museum, and county offices.
