The original church was completed in 1862. The Gutermuths (Goodermote) and the Jordans (Verton) were among the first German settlers to establish it. German was spoken there until 1910. In 1967, fire damaged the rear portion of the church but it was soon repaired. In October 1968, the entire church was destroyed by fire. By the spring of 1969, a new church was constructed. In May 1982, the second church was completely destroyed by fire.
