Scylla is a remote 12,956-foot summit in Kings Canyon National Park, west of California’s Sierra Nevada crest, rising prominently above Enchanted Gorge with about 3,150 feet of relief in roughly a mile. Near Charybdis, Mount Goddard, and Mount McDuffie, it is reachable from the area of the John Muir Trail and can be climbed by a non-technical route on its northwest slope, making it a recognized goal for peakbaggers. Theodore Solomons and Ernest C. Bonner gave Scylla and Charybdis their mythological names in 1895, the name was officially adopted in 1964, and the first recorded ascent came on July 3, 1934, by David Brower and Hervey Voge.
