Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich, Massachusetts, is a 100-acre museum and public garden that unites major horticultural collections with displays of American automobiles, folk art, and carousel figures. Once the estate of rhododendron hybridizer Charles O. Dexter, it became a center for preserving his work after a recovery effort begun in 1972 rebuilt one of the most important Dexter collections. The grounds also feature specialized gardens, thousands of labeled plants, a restored 1800 windmill, a labyrinth, maze, hydrangea garden, and Hidden Hollow for families. Founded in 1969, the museum is also known for its 1908 Charles Looff carousel and President William Howard Taft’s steam car.
