Near this site, Daniel and Squire Boone, Alexander Neeley, and John Stuart kept a winter camp in 1769-70. The creek was named by these pioneers after "Lorbrulgrud" from Gulliver's Travels, the first known book brought to Kentucky, and the name was later corrupted to Lulbegrud.
