Moxie Mountain in Somerset County, Maine, stands within the Kennebec River watershed and is defined largely by how its slopes feed that major river system. Water from the mountain drains in several directions through a network of ponds, streams, and wetlands, including Big and Little Dimmick Ponds, Baker Pond, Moxie Pond, Moxie Stream, Pleasant Pond, Pleasant Pond Stream, Robinson Pond Outlet, Heald Stream, and Austin Stream before reaching the Kennebec and ultimately the Gulf of Maine. Though the Appalachian Trail does not cross Moxie Mountain, it passes a few miles north over Pleasant Pond Mountain, placing the peak within a landscape familiar to hikers and backcountry travelers.
