The Town of Hinsdale dedicated this war memorial on May 30, 1923. Its Civil War tablet and the cannon and balls used in the Civil War were given by Francis E. Warren, a native of Hinsdale, soldier and statesman, and United States Senator from Wyoming, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for volunteering in response to a call and taking part, under heavy fire, in the movement made upon the enemy's works in advance of the general assault. Four additional plaques list approximately 415 names of veterans from Hinsdale under the heading “These Men [and Women] of Hinsdale served their country” in the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Spanish-American War, Mexican Border Expedition, World War, World War II, Vietnam, and Korea.
