King Lear Peak
Nature
King Lear Peak is a summit in Nevada’s Jackson Mountains, rising above the western side of the range and overlooking the Black Rock Desert. It stands in a stark high-desert setting where isolated mountains rise sharply from the surrounding basin, giving it prominence as a landmark in remote northwestern Nevada. The peak also has a literary connection: Gary Snyder refers to it in the final section of his 1996 epic poem Mountains and Rivers Without End, in a passage titled “Finding the Space in the Heart.”
