State Forest State Park is a major mountain park in northern Colorado in the Medicine Bow Range, established in 1970 and spanning 70,838 acres in Jackson and Larimer counties. Much of the park is forested with lodgepole pine, Douglas fir, Colorado blue spruce, aspen, and other species, though mountain pine beetle infestation has transformed large areas in recent years. The park is especially known for wildlife, particularly moose, with North Park recognized as Colorado’s moose viewing capital and more than 600 present year-round. Its campsites, cabins, boat ramps, and extensive trails make it an important center for recreation and habitat protection in the Rocky Mountains.
