In 1885, four years before Boothbay Harbor was incorporated, the waterfront included the Lewis Block, a large wooden structure now housing Pier One Pizza, and the steamer Wiwurna arriving at Lewis' wharf on its regular run between Bath and Boothbay. Behind and to the right of a sailboat's mast stood the 1878 Miller Block, now A Silver Lining. Manson McKown built mostly pleasure craft at his Boat Shop, now the site of Granary Way. A house with a south-facing dormer is currently Grover's Hardware. To the north stood the Methodist Church, which burned in 1951, and the present church was built on the same site. The next steeple was the Congregational Church, and on the far right stood the clock tower of the School Street high school, built in 1877.
