Near this green stood Joseph Spencer's farm, store, and dwelling house. Spencer was an officer in the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress, a member of the Connecticut Safety and General Assembly, town moderator, and deacon of the Millington church that was located across the street.
